Andium Homes welcomes pets and we place no particular restrictions on them in our homes, provided they do not breach the terms of a resident’s tenancy agreement or local law.
Pets are allowed on balconies. However, clients are not permitted to install structures on balconies, including pet enclosures. This is a safety requirement to reduce the risk of external fire spread, firefighter access and material falling from height during adverse weather. This applies to all Andium developments.
The advice from the States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service is clear, pet enclosures, netting, screening, timber structures, or similar additions to balconies can adversely impact the fire safety provisions of residential buildings which creates a significant threat to the safety of its residents and the safety of firefighters.
Accordingly, the installation and use of these structures is strictly prohibited. Any unauthorised structure must be removed immediately upon request by Andium Homes.
If clients have concerns about how to safely allow their pets to use a balcony, we encourage them to seek the advice of their Veterinary Surgery or JSPCA.
This policy is not about pets or restricting any client’s enjoyment of their balcony. It is about ensuring that structures on balconies do not create fire risks, block emergency access or affect the safety of residents and emergency responders.
We appreciate why some clients may want to create enclosed outdoor spaces for their pets. However, we must balance this with our responsibility to protect the safety of all residents, emergency responders and our buildings.
